Our New Baby

I am so excited for the arrival of my first child. My husband and I have been running around all day getting prepared. We only found out about the child a couple of weeks ago, but we’re so happy that we just can’t wait to get everything ready. At the top of our list is baby clothing, and stocking up on things like nappies, but we’ve also decided we want to turn the spare bedroom into a nursery for the child.

We’re not sure what its gender is going to be yet, so we want to keep all of the interior design pretty neutral. This means we can’t plaster the butterfly wallpaper I’ve been eyeing for a couple of months, and instead have to do something more generic. I guess we could also ignore gender norms altogether, but we think neutral is the way to go according to the parenting books. Who knows? I certainly don’t. I’ll trust the experts.

Anyway, we visited the interior decoration and wallpaper shop yesterday, which was a lot of fun, and super colourful. I had no idea wallpaper was even so popular nowadays, but apparently, it’s making a comeback. Another thing we were told to consider is removable nursery wall decals and stickers, since they are a lot more beginner and DIY-friendly than the more permanent wallpaper options. I also am quite partial to the decals since they only cover one small section of the wall rather than the whole thing. This means we can have different pictures in different areas, and really personalise it all to our own tastes. It’s really no problem if the nursery isn’t ready by the time the baby is born. Although we believe it is going to be ready months in advance, the baby is ultimately going to sleep in a cot in our room for the first little bit, just so we can be close by while it is sleeping. My husband is very excited, and I think I might be even more excited than him!
