The walls in my house are very plain. I live in a beautiful share house, which is rare when you’re my age. Most share houses are old and rundown. They’re the type of houses that it wouldn’t immediately be obvious that there was nothing decorating the walls because there is so much about the house that’s wrong. This is the complete opposite of my house. It’s bright, expansive and almost brand new. We’re the first tenants to ever live in the house and we’re only here because the owners needed to move away for work for a year. That’s why it’s so glaringly obvious that our walls are bare. This is the type of house that needs art, maybe even something bold like flower wall decals. We just need to find some way to decorate these walls. We need to do this fabulous house justice.
One of the issues with decorating a share house is that we all have different tastes. While we all agree that we need artwork dotting our walls, we can’t agree on a cohesive style or colour scheme. I personally like bright, bold colours. I’d be happy for rainbows to cover our walls, but my housemate, on the other hand, would prefer a more subtle colour scheme and more traditional styles of wall decals. Melbourne has so many artists around that we could commission art from. We could commission art that suits all of our tastes. We could even find some premade (or predesigned – I’m not sure of the terminology here) art. None of us are snobby in the sense that the art has to be custom made or anything. It’s obviously better for artists to be able to reproduce their artwork multiple times. We’re happy to support artists. We just can’t agree on a style that we all like!
Hopefully the next time I update you guys we’ve come to some sort of solution.
